Meet our Tempe Campus Pastor — Joel Thompson is passionate about helping people find freedom in Christ, develop a hunger for God, and experience authentic community. He has been in ministry for 18 years, beginning his journey in California, where he served in youth ministry for 10 years before joining SBC in 2017 as the Student Ministries Pastor. In 2019, Joel became our Next Gen Pastor, overseeing kids, youth, and young adults. As our Tempe Campus Pastor, he is excited to cultivate a thriving church family that reflects the love of Christ and inspires people to pursue a deeper relationship with God. Joel and his wife, Bethany, have two daughters, Selah and Emery.
Our Vision For Tempe…
We’re thrilled to announce plans for a new SBC campus coming to Tempe, a pivotal step in our vision to become a church for the entire Valley!
Join us in praying for God’s provision and direction throughout the renovation process, and that He will prepare leaders and volunteers for key ministry roles. SBC Tempe has an anticipated early 2026 opening date and is centrally located near the northeast corner of the 101 Pima Freeway and Southern Avenue. We envision this new campus becoming a strong addition to the SBC family, offering a welcoming place for Tempe residents to experience vibrant community and transformational life change.
